Every Wednesday night, a small pub on Camden Street fills up with people who came for a laugh and stay because the laughs actually land. Comedy Anseo is a weekly stand-up show at Anseo bar, hosted by Richie Bree and Colm McGlinchey - two of Dublin’s most reliable comperes - and it draws a calibre of guest act that many dedicated comedy clubs would be happy with. This is the kind of night that suits anyone who wants proper stand-up in a pub rather than a theatre: close quarters, no frills, and comedians who are genuinely on.
The format is a traditional stand-up bill: the hosts open and close the evening, with guest acts in between. Past performers include David O’Doherty, Deirdre O’Kane, Jason Byrne, Des Bishop, Emma Doran, and Ardal O’Hanlon - a mix of established names and sharp newer voices. The room at Anseo is intimate, which means the energy between audience and performer is immediate. Shows run from 8pm to 10pm. The night sells out regularly, so booking in advance is the sensible move. Tickets range from free to around €15 depending on the bill, with many nights running at a flat €6.
Anseo sits on Camden Street Lower in Dublin 2, about a ten-minute walk from St Stephen’s Green and close to several Luas Green Line stops - Harcourt is the most convenient, roughly five minutes on foot. Dublin Bus serves Camden Street directly on multiple routes from the city centre. If you are driving in from outside the city, parking on Camden Street itself is limited in the evenings; the nearest multi-storey options are on Drury Street or near Stephen’s Green Shopping Centre. Most people arriving by public transport will find it straightforward.
