Connaught Street Heritage Week celebrates the rich history, traditions and community spirit of Athlone’s west side with a packed programme of events. Activities include the Over 40s 5-a-side Football Tournament, living heritage demonstrations, traditional craft displays, guided heritage walks, and performances from the Army Band and Pipe Band.
Over 40s 5-a-side Football Tournament: The Hollow, culminating in the final on Saturday, 22 August.
Living Heritage Day: Sunday, 23 August at Connaught Gardens, beginning with a parade from Dean Crowe Theatre at approximately 11am. Features performances from the Army Band and Pipe Band, traditional craft demonstrations and heritage talks.
All events are free to attend. This is part of National Heritage Week, 15-23 August 2026, with the theme “Heritage at Risk”.
Athlone town centre is on the N6/N61 roads. Connaught Gardens and Dean Crowe Theatre are in the west side of the town.
