Craft and Chatter is Banbridge Library’s weekly knitting and crafts morning, a regular fixture on the library’s community programme where locals bring their own projects, or start a new one, over a couple of hours of chat. It runs every Monday and is one of a handful of similar adult social groups that Libraries NI runs at branches across County Down, aimed squarely at adults rather than children.
The format is informal: bring whatever knitting, crochet or other craft project you are working on and share the table with other regulars, with library staff on hand rather than a formal tutor running a class. It runs from 10am to noon every Monday, and Libraries NI asks that anyone new to the group books a place in advance through the library rather than just turning up, since space and materials can be limited on a given morning. It sits alongside other Libraries NI community sessions such as Tea and Newspapers groups and adult reading circles running at branches elsewhere in the county, part of a broader effort by the library service to keep its branches functioning as genuine community meeting points rather than just book-lending counters. Regulars tend to know each other well, so newcomers should expect a friendly, if established, group.
Banbridge has no rail station and is served by Translink Goldline coach services from Belfast, Newry and Portadown. The library is within the town centre, close to the main bus stops and public car parks.
