Cork City FC vs Kerry FC - League of Ireland

At Turner's Cross Stadium · Turner's Cross, Cork

Cork City FC playing at Turner's Cross Stadium

A Friday-night League of Ireland fixture at Turner’s Cross always carries a particular kind of charge, and this one carries more than most. When Cork City FC host Kerry FC in the SSE Airtricity Men’s First Division, it is a Munster derby - two clubs separated by county lines and a longstanding rivalry, playing for local pride as much as points. It suits anyone who wants a proper evening out watching competitive football in an intimate ground where the crowd is close to the pitch and you can hear every call from the dugouts.

What to expect

Turner’s Cross is one of the most atmospheric grounds in the League of Ireland. Built in 1904 and fully redeveloped in 2009, it was the first all-seated, all-covered stadium in Ireland. The low cantilever roof traps noise and gives the place an enclosed, pressurised feel - the singing in the Curragh Road Stand (known as “The Shed End”) carries right across the ground.

Cork City and Kerry FC have already met twice in the 2026 First Division season, with Cork winning 4-2 at Turner’s Cross in April before Kerry took a 1-0 win in Tralee in May. By August, with the season in its second half and promotion places still in contention, expect both sides to be pushing hard. The Munster derby tag adds an extra edge that lifts it above a routine midweek fixture.

Chip vans operate inside the ground and The Corner Flag bar is nearby if you want to call in before kickoff. The family enclosure in the Donie Forde Stand has activities on match days, making it a practical choice if you are coming with children.

Getting there

Cork city is well connected by road from Dublin (2.5 hours via the M8), Limerick (1 hour via the N20), and Waterford (1.5 hours via the N25). Turner’s Cross sits on Curragh Road in the south of the city, about a 15-minute walk from the city centre. By bus, the 203 (Ballyphehane), 206 (Grange/Frankfield), and 219 (CIT to Mahon) routes all pass close to the ground. A taxi from the city centre runs around €10-€15. There is no dedicated car park at the stadium; street parking fills quickly so arrive early and be considerate of local residents.

While you’re in Cork

Cork city is worth a proper visit - the English Market, St Fin Barre’s Cathedral, and the river quays are all within easy reach of Turner’s Cross on foot. There is more to see in Cork and across Co. Cork.
