Cork Pride 5k Road Race

At Kennedy Park · Kennedy Park, Ballintemple, Cork

Runners at the Cork Pride 5k at Kennedy Park, Cork

The Cork Pride 5k is a chip-timed road race that opens Cork Pride weekend with a proper run - or walk - through one of the city’s finest stretches of riverside parkland. Organised by Frontrunners & Briskwalkers Cork (FRBW), a club built around inclusion in sport for the LGBT+ community, the race is as much a celebration as a competition. Every finisher receives a FRBW 5k medal, and trophies go to the first runner and first walker home. It suits everyone from club runners chasing a time to people who just want to be part of something lively on a summer Saturday morning.

What to expect

The race starts at 10:00am at Kennedy Park, Ballintemple, which sits between Victoria Road and Monahan Road on the Marina side of Cork city. The park is a 7.5-acre green space named after John F. Kennedy, who visited the area in 1963. From here the course makes use of the Marina Promenade - the revamped car-free shared pathway that runs along the River Lee toward Blackrock - giving runners a flat, scenic route with real crowd potential.

The event is officially measured and chip-timed, so your result is recorded properly. Colourful attire fits the occasion, and the atmosphere leans more towards community event than serious athletics fixture, though the timing chip means anyone who wants to race hard can do exactly that. FRBW is explicit about welcoming people of all abilities, and walking the 5k is treated as equal to running it.

Registration is handled through EventMaster; check the organiser’s website or the Cork Pride calendar ahead of the day as entry numbers may be limited.

Getting there

Kennedy Park is on the south bank of the Lee, roughly 2km east of Cork city centre via Victoria Road. By car, the South Ring Road (N28/N40) and Blackrock Road give easy access from most directions; street parking is available along Victoria Road and the surrounding residential streets.

By bus, several Bus Eireann and Cork City routes serve the Marina and Blackrock Road corridor from the city centre. The journey from Cork Kent Station to the Marina takes around 10 to 15 minutes on foot or a few minutes by bus.

While you’re in Cork

Cork city repays time before or after a race - the English Market, the food scene on Washington Street, and the galleries around the Glucksman are all within easy reach. There is more to see in Cork and across Co. Cork.
