At Pairc Ui Chaoimh · Marina Park, Cork City, Co. Cork
The Cork Premier Senior Football Championship semi-finals are among the most keenly anticipated days in the county’s sporting calendar. Four clubs - each having battled through group stages and quarter-finals - arrive at this stage knowing a place in the October county final at Páirc Uí Chaoimh is the prize. If you follow Cork club football, or simply want to experience a proper GAA occasion with real stakes, this is a good day to be in the city.
The Premier Senior Football Championship is the top tier of club football in Cork, the 138th staging of a competition with deep roots in the county. Twenty-two clubs enter each year; twelve go through a group-stage round-robin, and the survivors join divisional teams in a knockout that builds to this point. By semi-final day, the games are tight, the stands are loud, and there is no shortage of Cork football tradition on display. Clubs such as Nemo Rangers - the most decorated side in the championship’s history with 23 titles - Castlehaven, St Finbarr’s, and Clonakilty are among the names that tend to feature at the business end of the draw. The venue listed is Páirc Uí Chaoimh, Cork’s main GAA ground on the Marina, though Páirc Uí Rinn in Ballintemple is sometimes used for semi-final fixtures. Check gaacork.ie closer to the date for confirmed pairings and exact kick-off times.
Páirc Uí Chaoimh sits on the Marina, about five minutes from Cork city centre on foot from the South Mall area. The 202 bus route stops in Ballintemple, roughly 250 metres from the stadium. Cork Kent Station is about a 20-minute walk along the riverside path. There is no on-site parking on match days, so public transport or walking from the city centre is the sensible option. If you are driving in from outside Cork, park in the city and walk or use the bus.
Cork city is well worth a few hours before or after the game - the English Market, Patrick Street, and the Lee-side quays are all within easy reach of the stadium. There is more to see in Cork and across Co. Cork.
