Cork Premier Senior Hurling Championship 2026 - Round 3 Group Games

Cork Premier Senior Hurling Championship group stage decider

Club hurling in Cork is a serious business, and the third and final round of the 2026 Co-Op Superstores Cork Premier Senior Hurling Championship group stage is where things get settled. After two rounds of fixtures, every club knows exactly where it stands: qualify or go home. These are the games where the scorelines matter, where a single goal can flip a group, and where the atmosphere at local grounds is as tight as anything you will find in Gaelic games. If you have never watched Cork club hurling before, this is a fine place to start.

What to expect

Twelve clubs are split across three groups of four, playing a single round-robin to determine which six advance to the knockout stage. Group 1 features Blackrock, Glen Rovers, Kanturk and Fr O’Neill’s. Group 2 brings together defending champions Sarsfields, Charleville, Douglas and Newtownshandrum. Group 3 is Midleton, St Finbarr’s, Bride Rovers and Newcestown. The three group winners and three runners-up all go through to the quarter-finals, alongside divisional and colleges teams.

Round 3 fixtures are spread across venues throughout the county - not just the city. That means you could be watching hurling at a tight rural ground with a tin roof and a proper crowd, or at one of the bigger suburban clubs on the southside of Cork. Check gaacork.ie for the confirmed venues once fixtures are posted. Tickets are typically priced from €8 and are available at the gate. Games move fast and tend to start on time.

The Seán Óg Murphy Cup is the prize at the end of the summer. This championship has been running since 1887, and the so-called big three - Blackrock, Glen Rovers and St Finbarr’s - have combined for over 80 titles between them. But recent years have shifted power outward: Sarsfields and Midleton have both been serious contenders, and Kanturk have emerged as a genuine force from north Cork.

Getting there

Venues vary across the county, so the specific location depends on which fixture you want to attend. Cork city is well served by Bus Éireann from Dublin, Limerick, Waterford and Killarney, and there are regular rail connections on the Cork - Dublin and Cork - Limerick lines into Kent Station. If you are driving, the M8 from Dublin and the N25 from Waterford are the main approaches. Parking at club grounds is usually free and available on site, though arriving 30 minutes early is sensible for the bigger games. For rural venues, a car is generally the most practical option.

While you’re in Cork

Cork city is worth the extra time if you are travelling for the match - the English Market, the Crawford Art Gallery and the Lee-side quays are all within easy walking distance of the centre. There is more to see in Cork and across Co. Cork.
