A fine night of Irish country music lands in Tullamore on the last Monday of September, when the Tullamore Court Hotel hosts the Country Startime Concert - a three-hour show put together by Billy Morrissey Events, one of the most active promoters of this kind of touring country bill in Ireland. The lineup pulls together six well-known names and a band, making this the kind of event that draws a loyal crowd from across Offaly and the midlands. Country music fans who have been to similar Morrissey Events nights will know the format: relaxed, generous, and built around performers who have years of live experience behind them.
The bill for September 28th features Robert Mizzell, Trudi Lalor, Patrick Feeney, Sandy Kelly, Mick Flavin and Olivia Douglas, with The Matrimony Band providing the backing throughout the evening. Each artist is well established on the Irish country circuit. Sandy Kelly has been performing for decades and is known as much for her Vegas residency years as for her Patsy Cline tributes. Patrick Feeney from Ballaghaderreen has built one of the bigger followings in Irish country over the past ten years. Robert Mizzell - originally from Louisiana, long based in Ireland - brings a genuine American country flavour to the stage. Mick Flavin from Ballyconnell and Trudi Lalor have between them a large back catalogue of hits that will be familiar to anyone who follows the scene.
Doors open at 7:00pm; the show runs from 8:00pm to 11:00pm. Seating is unreserved, so arriving early gives you a better pick of the room. The hotel is a well-established concert venue with a capacity of around 500 and has hosted touring country shows regularly.
Tullamore is on the M6 motorway corridor from Dublin, roughly 90 kilometres west of the capital - about an hour by car depending on traffic. The N52 connects from Birr and Mullingar. Bus Eireann runs regular services into Tullamore from Dublin, Athlone, and surrounding towns; the town centre bus stop is a short walk from the hotel on O’Moore Street. The hotel has on-site parking available.
