Culture Night returns to Waterford on Friday, 18 September 2026, part of the national, free, one-night celebration of arts, heritage and culture held every September across Ireland. Waterford City and County Council is again running a Waterford programme for the evening, opening galleries, museums, heritage sites and studios to the public for free from early evening into the night, with performances, exhibitions and behind-the-scenes access that do not normally happen on an ordinary Friday.
Culture Night Waterford is built around free, drop-in access rather than ticketed shows. In past years the city’s Viking Triangle museums, galleries, artist studios and community venues have opened their doors for extended hours, with short performances, talks and hands-on activities layered on top of normal opening hours. The council was still finalising the detailed 2026 line-up for Waterford at the time of writing, appointing a programming partner through a public tender to design and deliver the evening. The national Culture Night website and Waterford City and County Council’s own channels publish the full venue-by-venue programme in the weeks before the night, but the date and the free, city-wide format are already confirmed.
Culture Night venues are spread across Waterford city centre and are easiest to reach on foot, since several venues sit within a few minutes of each other around the Viking Triangle and the main street. Waterford railway station and city bus stops are within walking distance of the core venues.
An evening of free access to Waterford’s museums and galleries is a good reason to build in time to explore the surrounding streets before or after. There is more to see and do in Waterford and across Co. Waterford.
