At Live at the Marquee · Maughan House, Marina Commercial Park, Centre Park Road, Cork
Dec Pierce has been running Block Rockin’ Beats as a radio show on Today FM for years, but seeing it performed live is a different thing entirely. This is a full live band taking on the dance anthems that defined a generation - Underworld, Faithless, The Prodigy, The Chemical Brothers - played with the kind of energy and volume that streaming can’t replicate. If you came up listening to big room rave and have been looking for an excuse to revisit it properly, this is that night. It suits people who know the tracks well and those who just want a loud, well-produced show with a crowd that’s there to move.
Block Rockin’ Beats is the live incarnation of Dec Pierce’s Today FM show, and the format has been refined across multiple sold-out performances and festival appearances. The set blends dance, rave, and rock in a live band setup - not a DJ night, not a tribute act, but a full production performing the original material. Expect the kind of anthems that still sound colossal on a big sound system: think “Born Slippy,” “Insomnia,” “Firestarter,” “Hey Boy Hey Girl.” The show has a reputation for being raw and energetic rather than polished and corporate. The venue holds around 5,000, so this is a proper crowd night. Gates open at 6.30pm and the main act typically starts around 8.30pm - 9pm.
Live at the Marquee sits on the former Tedcastle’s Yard on Centre Park Road, about seven minutes by car from Cork city centre and a 30-minute walk. Coming from the city, Centre Park Road is the first left at the Albert Road roundabout. On-site parking for around 300 cars can be booked in advance through Ticketmaster (€14.20). It books up, so do it early. Post-gig traffic on Centre Park Road can back up; if you’re being collected, Monahan Road or the Ballintemple side of Parc Ui Chaoimh are quieter pickup points. The Marquee is a cashless venue, so bring a card rather than cash.
Cork city has a strong food scene along MacCurtain Street and the English Market is worth an hour before the show. There is more to see in Cork and across Co. Cork.
