At Council Chamber · Guildhall, Guildhall Square, Derry, Co. Derry BT48 6DQ / Strabane Council Offices, Derry Road, Strabane
Derry City and Strabane District Council’s Planning Committee is the forum where councillors decide on planning applications that have been called in for committee determination, rather than dealt with under delegated authority. Meetings are held as hybrid sessions and, according to the council, alternate monthly between the Council Chamber at the Guildhall in Derry and the Council Chamber at the Council Offices on Derry Road in Strabane. The council’s meetings portal lists the next confirmed sitting for Wednesday 2 September 2026 at 2:00pm, with a further meeting already scheduled for 7 October 2026. The list of applications due for discussion is published on the council’s website one week ahead of each meeting. Anyone with an interest in a specific application, whether a supporter or an objector, can attend in person to watch proceedings from the public gallery, and the meeting is also livestreamed for those who cannot travel. Given the scale of the district, covering everywhere from Derry city itself out to Strabane, Limavady and Magherafelt, the Planning Committee’s agenda can range from single-house applications to major commercial and infrastructure schemes.
If the meeting is held at the Guildhall, it sits in the heart of Derry city centre at Guildhall Square, a short walk from Foyle Street bus station and the Magazine Street and Quay car parks. If held in Strabane, the Council Offices are on Derry Road, within walking distance of Strabane town centre and its bus and rail connections.
