Derry City and Strabane District Council holds its monthly full council meeting at the historic Guildhall in Derry city centre. The meetings are open to the public and are also broadcast live on the council’s YouTube channel and through its webcasting service. Councillors elected across the Derry City and Strabane District area attend to debate motions, consider committee reports, and decide council policy. The council covers a large district including Derry city, Strabane, Limavady, and Magherafelt areas. The next confirmed sitting on the council’s meetings portal is Wednesday 23 September 2026 at 2:00pm; a further sitting is already scheduled for 28 October 2026. Full Council is where decisions escalated from the various standing committees, including Planning, Governance and Strategic Planning, and Business and Culture, are formally ratified, so its agendas can cover anything from budget decisions to motions raised by individual councillors.
