Derry’s minor footballers came agonisingly close to a place in the All-Ireland minor final, taking the lead against Cork inside the opening minutes before a powerful second-half display from the Rebels put paid to their ambitions. For Derry supporters who made the trip south to Parnell Park in Dublin, it was a day that showed real promise from a young Oak Leaf side - and confirmed that Derry remain one of the strongest underage counties in the country.
The Electric Ireland All-Ireland Minor Football Championship semi-final between Cork and Derry took place at Parnell Park, Donnycarney, Dublin on Saturday 21 June 2026, with a 4pm throw-in. Derry had reached the last four by beating Roscommon 2-16 to 1-13 at Kingspan Breffni in the quarter-final, while Cork came through their own last-eight tie in confident form.
Derry made a blistering start, with goals from Conor O’Kane and Rocco Devlin pushing the Oak Leafers to 2-0 to 0-3 ahead early on. Cork steadied and led by two points at half-time, but Derry emerged in the second half with serious intent - winning five Cork kick-outs in a row and cutting the deficit to two at 2-6 to 0-11. The game turned on 41 minutes when Tom Whooley punched in Cork’s first goal, and the Rebels did not look back, running out 2-19 to 2-8 winners. Cork advanced to the All-Ireland minor final to meet Tyrone. For Derry, it was a narrow miss on what would have been a third All-Ireland minor final appearance in four seasons.
The match was broadcast on the TG4 App, with delayed television coverage on TG4 later the same day.
Parnell Park is in Donnycarney on the northside of Dublin, roughly 5 kilometres from the city centre. Killester DART station is about 750 metres from the ground and is the easiest way to arrive from the city centre or from Connolly Station. Dublin Bus routes also serve the Donnycarney area. Street parking in the surrounding residential streets is available but limited on match days, so public transport is the better option for supporters.
From Derry, the journey south to Dublin is roughly two and a half hours by road via the M1 motorway. Bus Eireann and GoBus both operate regular coach services between Derry/Londonderry and Dublin city centre, from where you can pick up the DART or a bus to Donnycarney.
A trip to Parnell Park may be in Dublin, but the spirit of the day belongs to the Oak Leaf county. If you are heading up to Derry itself on the back of the championship run, the walled city rewards a visit - the city walls, the Bogside murals, and the Peace Bridge all sit within a short walk of each other. There is more to see in Derry and across Co. Derry.
