Derry Senior Football Championship - Quarter-Finals

At Owenbeg Centre of Excellence · Owenbeg, Dungiven, Co. Derry

Derry SFC quarter-final action at Owenbeg

The O’Neills Derry Senior Football Championship reaches its quarter-final stage at Owenbeg on the weekend of 27-28 September 2026. This is where the county’s club season sharpens into straight knockout football - eight clubs, four ties, and a place in the semi-finals at stake. If you follow Derry GAA or have a club allegiance anywhere in the county, the quarter-finals at Owenbeg are one of the best afternoons of the calendar year: good football, a real crowd, and the urgency that only a one-game-and-out format brings.

What to expect

The four quarter-finals bring together the winners from Round 2A and the winners of Round 3 - so by this stage, every club left in the draw has already been tested. Games tend to be tight; teams have nothing to fall back on and the football reflects that. Derry’s club game has produced consistent All-Ireland club contenders in recent years, so the standard is high.

The venue suits the occasion. Owenbeg is Derry GAA’s Centre of Excellence - a purpose-built 48-acre facility opened in 2011 and the county’s second county ground. There is a 2,000-seat stand, a canteen, and a supporters shop on site. September quarter-final weekends draw strong local support. Exact fixture times and pairings are confirmed after Round 3 concludes - check derrygaa.ie for the draw.

Getting there

Owenbeg sits on the edge of Dungiven, roughly 25km south of Derry city along the A6. From Derry city, it is a straightforward drive south - the ground is signposted from the main road. From Belfast, follow the A6 west through Dungiven; from Dublin, the M1 to Newry and then north via Omagh or Aughnacloy brings you onto the same A6 corridor. There is ample on-site parking. Public transport options to Dungiven itself are limited, so a car or lift is the practical choice for most visitors.

While you’re in Dungiven

Dungiven is a market town on the River Roe with a strong GAA tradition. O’Cahan’s Rock and the ruins of Dungiven Priory - one of the oldest Augustinian foundations in Ireland - are a short distance from the town centre. There is more to see in Dungiven and across Co. Derry.
