At The Everyman · 15 MacCurtain Street, Cork
At 80 years old and still touring, Donovan brings his intimate “Tale of the Gael” show to Cork’s Everyman on 11 July 2026. This is not a stadium nostalgia night - it is a personal storytelling concert in a 650-seat Victorian theatre, where one of the most influential songwriters of the 1960s walks his audience through a life spent shaping modern music. If you grew up with Sunshine Superman or Mellow Yellow on the radio, this is the kind of show that does not come around often.
The evening runs for roughly 90 minutes with an interval. Donovan performs from across his full catalogue - expect Catch the Wind, Colours, Jennifer Juniper, Hurdy Gurdy Man, Season of the Witch, Wear Your Love Like Heaven and Atlantis alongside deeper cuts from his early folk albums including Universal Soldier and Donna Donna. What sets The Tale of the Gael apart from a standard concert is the storytelling woven between songs. Donovan talks about his Celtic roots and his rise from a young Scottish folk singer to his friendships with The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and others. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012 and the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2014. Cork gets him in a room that seats 650 - that is the rarity.
The Everyman sits on MacCurtain Street, a five-minute walk north of Cork city centre across Patrick’s Bridge. Kent railway station is around a ten-minute walk east along the quays - Cork is served by direct trains from Dublin Heuston (roughly 2.5 hours), Limerick and Mallow. Bus Eireann services connect Cork city to most of the county. If you are driving, the city has several multi-storey car parks near the river; on-street parking on MacCurtain Street tends to ease after 7pm. Taxis are plentiful in Cork city.
MacCurtain Street is lined with restaurants, cafes and bars - arrive early and you will have plenty of options for a meal before the show. There is more to see in Cork and across Co. Cork.
