Late Night Art Bangor - July

At Multiple venues in central Bangor · Bangor town centre, Co. Down

Late Night Art Bangor event

On the last Thursday of every month, the galleries, studios, cafes and bars of central Bangor open their doors after hours and invite everyone in for free. Late Night Art Bangor is a community-led initiative launched in January 2025 by three founding venues - Boom Studios, The Court House, and Seacourt Print Workshop - and it has been growing steadily since. The July edition runs 6 to 9pm, covering a generous window for walking between spaces, having a look around, and catching a demonstration or two. It suits anyone with a passing interest in what local artists are making, parents looking for something easy and accessible with children, and people who simply want a reason to spend an evening in town.

What to expect

The format is relaxed and self-directed. A shifting roster of venues - galleries, independent cafes, working studios - participates each month, and each one decides what to show. Past editions have featured printmakers, painters, photographers, illustrators and street artists at various stages of their careers, from established names in the North Down area to recent graduates and emerging makers. Alongside exhibitions there are live demonstrations: framing, pottery, upcycling and other crafts that are rarely visible to the public. Some venues put on music or other performances. Most of the spaces are dog-friendly and child-friendly, and many offer complimentary refreshments. The event is deliberately train-friendly - the 6 to 9pm window is designed so that visitors can arrive by rail, move between a handful of venues, and still catch a train home.

The best way to find out which venues are taking part each month is to follow @latenightartbangor on Instagram, where participating spaces post ahead of the event using the hashtag #LNABangor.

Getting there

Bangor is one of the easiest towns in the North to reach by public transport. Translink runs regular trains on the Belfast to Bangor line, with services roughly every half hour from Belfast Grand Central; the journey takes around 30 minutes. Bangor train station sits right in the town centre, putting you a short walk from the event venues. If you are driving from Belfast, the A2 coastal road is the most direct route and the town has car parks close to the centre.

While you’re in Bangor

Bangor has a long seafront promenade, a marina, and the North Down Museum, which is free and housed in the grounds of Bangor Castle. Late Night Art is a good anchor for an evening that starts with a walk along the shore. There is more to see in Bangor and across Co. Down.
