Newcastle Summer Craft Market

At Newcastle Town Centre · Main Street, Newcastle, Co. Down, BT33 0AA

Newcastle craft market stalls

Newcastle’s summer craft market is one of the more enjoyable ways to spend a Saturday morning on the Co. Down coast. Organised by Newry, Mourne and Down District Council, it draws local makers, growers, and artisans to the events space behind Newcastle Centre - a sheltered spot just off the promenade with Slieve Donard filling the backdrop. It suits anyone who prefers a relaxed browse over a mall, and it’s as much a social occasion as a shopping trip.

What to expect

The market runs monthly from March to October, with stalls set up from 11am to 3pm. Expect a mix of handmade crafts, jewellery, ceramics, textiles, and artwork alongside artisan food and drink. The emphasis is firmly on local producers - the kind of makers who know exactly what went into everything on their table. Live music plays throughout, keeping the pace easy. It’s family-friendly, with no admission charge, and Newry, Mourne and Down Council note that all areas are accessible to disabled visitors. Numbers of stalls vary across the season, but a typical Saturday brings 15 to 20 vendors covering a decent range of categories.

Getting there

Newcastle, Co. Down sits about 50 kilometres south of Belfast on the A24 and A2 roads, at the foot of the Mourne Mountains. From Belfast, the Translink 238 bus service runs regularly to Newcastle and takes around an hour and 20 minutes - useful if you’d rather not drive. From Dublin, the M1 north and then the A1 is the most direct route, roughly two hours. The market venue is at Newcastle Centre, 10-14 Central Promenade. Parking is available at the beach car park on the promenade and in surrounding town car parks, all within easy walking distance.

While you’re in Newcastle

The town has a long sandy beach, the Slieve Donard resort, and the start of the Mourne Wall walking route all within reach of the promenade. The Saturday market fits neatly into a half-day before or after a walk or a meal along the seafront. There is more to see in Newcastle and across Co. Down.
