At The Phoenix Bar · 2 Upper Water Street, Newry, Co. Down, BT34 1DJ
Common Ground Collective brings its club night back to The Phoenix Bar on Upper Water Street in Newry city centre on Friday 7 August 2026, doors from 9pm until 11:59pm. It is the second outing for the promoters, who debuted the format in June with a smaller room and have built the August date around DJ sets running through the whole night plus a special guest performance.
The organisers describe it simply as “a great night’s craic” after what they call a fun debut in June, and the format leans on continuous DJ sets rather than a headline live act, with the venue’s small central bar setup used to keep the room feeling busy even on a Friday that is not a bank holiday weekend. The Phoenix Bar itself is a regular late-night spot on Newry’s Upper Water Street strip rather than a dedicated nightclub, so expect a bar-club hybrid atmosphere, closer in scale to a Belfast basement club night than a big-room event. Because this is only the second edition of the series, there is no fixed monthly date yet, so anyone interested should follow Common Ground Collective’s Eventbrite page directly for the next one rather than assuming a set weekly or monthly slot.
Upper Water Street runs just off Newry city centre, a short walk from the Newry Bus and Rail Interchange and from the Hill Street and Merchants Quay bar strip. On-street parking is available nearby, with the Buttercrane car park a five-minute walk away for anyone driving in.
Newry’s Friday and Saturday night scene concentrates in a handful of streets around Hill Street, Merchants Quay and Upper Water Street, so it is easy to combine a Phoenix Bar visit with a wider night out. There is more to see in Newry and across Co. Down.
