Newry and Mourne Museum at Bagenal’s Castle marks Halloween with a family storytelling session on Saturday, 31 October 2026, priced at £2 per ticket. Storyteller Janice Witherspoon takes over the museum for tales of “strange goings on, witches, ghosts, and all sorts of fairy folk,” aimed at families visiting the city centre museum over the Halloween weekend.
The session is built around traditional storytelling rather than a scripted performance: Janice Witherspoon, a well-known figure on the Irish storytelling circuit, works through folk tales in a format suited to children and their parents together. It runs inside Bagenal’s Castle, the 16th-century merchant’s house at the heart of the museum, giving the stories a suitably atmospheric setting on Halloween itself.
