At Dublin City Centre · Start: Custom House Quay, Dublin 1
The Dublin City Triathlon gives you the rare experience of moving through Dublin as almost nobody else does - swimming the Liffey, riding through Phoenix Park, and running along roads that are closed to traffic just for you. It takes place on Saturday 22 August 2026 and suits everyone from nervous first-timers to seasoned competitors, with a Try-a-Tri option (150m swim, 14km bike, 2.5km run) right up to the National Series Sprint (750m swim, 20km bike, 5km run). There is also an Aquabike category and a Corporate Relay for those who want the team experience. Note that the Standard Distance race is not running in 2026, so the Sprint is the longest solo option this year.
Race headquarters is at the Garda Boat Club on Chapelizod Road, where registration, transition, and bag drop are all based. The swim happens in the River Liffey above the weir at Islandbridge - this stretch sits above the tidal section, so water quality is considerably better than the lower Liffey. A wetsuit is compulsory for all swimmers; swim caps are provided on the day. Water rescue teams and spotters are in position throughout.
After transition, the bike course runs through Phoenix Park - a 1,750-acre expanse right in the city, so the scenery is genuinely good. The run finishes with a lap of Donore Harriers running track on Chapelizod Road. Races run from roughly 8.30am until 2.30pm, with individual wave starts through the morning window.
Phoenix Park is about 4km from Dublin city centre. By public transport, Dublin Bus routes serve the Chapelizod Road entrance. If you are driving, limited parking is available at St Brendan’s GAA Club next to the Garda Boat Club, with additional spaces inside the Phoenix Park itself - be aware that cars cannot leave the car park until the last runner has finished. Given the road closures on Chapelizod Road from early morning, arriving well before your wave start is strongly advised.
Phoenix Park is worth time before or after the race - it holds Dublin Zoo, the Áras an Uachtaráin grounds, and deer that wander freely. The city centre is only a short distance away for food and recovery. There is more to see in Dublin and across Co. Dublin.
