At The Park Hotel · Dungarvan, Co. Waterford
Dungarvan Club, part of the worldwide Toastmasters International network, has been meeting in the town since it was chartered in March 1991. It gathers on the second and fourth Thursday of the month at 8pm in the Park Hotel, and, like every Toastmasters club, guests are free to sit in on a meeting with no pressure to speak or join.
A Toastmasters meeting follows a well-established format: members deliver prepared speeches and get structured feedback from an assigned evaluator, there is an impromptu “table topics” round where attendees answer a question or discuss a subject on the spot for a minute or two, and roles such as timekeeper and grammarian rotate around the room to track the mechanics of each speech. The programme is built to take a nervous first-time speaker through gradually longer and more demanding speeches, and eventually into leadership and mentoring roles within the club. Having run continuously in Dungarvan for over three decades, the club has a settled, welcoming culture, and the option to attend online as well as in person makes it easier to keep up a regular routine. There is no fee to attend as a visitor.
The Park Hotel is on the edge of Dungarvan town, with its own car park, a short drive from the town centre. Dungarvan is on the N25 Cork to Waterford road and is served by Bus Éireann routes into the town.
The Park Hotel sits close to Dungarvan’s harbour and Georgian square, both an easy walk from the meeting room. There is more to see in Dungarvan and across Co. Waterford.
