At Edenderry GAA Grounds · Edenderry GAA Grounds, Edenderry, Co. Offaly
The Edenderry Music Festival is one of the biggest outdoor music events in the Irish Midlands, running across three days at the end of June. It draws people from across Offaly and well beyond for a mix of tribute acts, live entertainment, and a free family day on Sunday. If you enjoy a proper summer knees-up in a sheltered setting - without the mud gamble of an open field - this is a solid weekend out.
The festival is held under a Big Top Marquee at Edenderry GAA Grounds, which means the weather is not a factor. That alone makes it a more relaxed proposition than many outdoor festivals. Friday and Saturday evenings are the main music nights, with headline acts including Mack Fleetwood - a Fleetwood Mac tribute that covers everything from the Peter Green era through to the Stevie Nicks hits - and The Tumbling Paddies, one of Ireland’s most well-travelled live entertainment acts. Additional acts include a Tina Turner tribute (Rebecca O’Connor), Cash Returns doing Johnny Cash and June Carter, and a Blondie tribute among others.
Sunday takes a different shape entirely. It is a free family fun day - no admission charge and no alcohol served. Inflatables, a children’s fun fair, and family activities fill the grounds, making it a separate, child-friendly occasion rather than just a wind-down from the weekend.
Edenderry sits in north Co. Offaly, roughly 40 kilometres north of Tullamore and about 55 kilometres from Dublin via the M4. From Dublin, take the M4 west and follow the R402 south into town. The town is not on a main rail line, so driving is the practical choice for most. Bus Eireann serves Edenderry on Route 125 from Dublin. If you drive, the GAA Grounds are on the edge of town and parking is generally available in the area around the venue.
The town has a decent main street with places to eat and drink before or after the festival. The Grand Canal runs close to the town, with pleasant walking routes along the towpath that are worth an hour of your time. There is more to see in Edenderry and across Co. Offaly.
