What to Expect

Ennis Mart hosts a dedicated Breeding Sheep Show and Sale on Saturday 8 August 2026, a special fixture outside its normal Monday, Tuesday and Thursday sale pattern. Gates open at 7:30am to allow time for exhibitors to pen and settle their sheep before judging gets under way at 10am, when breeders bring forward pedigree and breeding ewes, ram lambs and shearling rams to be assessed by class in the show ring. The show side of the day gives breeders a chance to have their flock’s breeding stock formally judged and compared against others from across Clare and the wider mid-west, with placings carrying weight for breeders building a reputation and a customer base. Once judging finishes, the sale opens at 11:30am, when the same animals, now with a show placing attached in many cases, go through the ring to be sold to other breeders looking to improve their own flocks. This combined show-and-sale format is a step up in scale from Ennis Mart’s regular Monday sheep auction, which handles the weekly commercial trade in store and factory sheep, and instead focuses on breeding quality. It draws a more specialist crowd of pedigree flock owners and enthusiasts alongside the mart’s usual commission buyers.

Getting There

Ennis Mart is on the Quin Road on the southern edge of Ennis town, close to the N18/N19 junction, with free on-site parking and space for livestock trailers.
