At West Clare Art Gallery · Ennis Road, Ennistymon, Co. Clare
Ennistymon Farmers Market sets up every Saturday from 10am to 2pm at the West Clare Art Gallery on the Ennis Road, in one of North Clare’s most distinctive market towns. Stalls offer locally home-grown fresh vegetables, preserves, home baking and seasonal plants, keeping the market small and focused rather than trying to compete with the bigger food markets in Ennis or Kilrush. Ennistymon itself is known for the Cascades, a series of falls on the River Cullenagh that run right through the middle of town, and for its long, brightly painted row of traditional shopfronts and pubs, so a Saturday market visit fits naturally into a wider stroll around the town. The market functions as much as a community gathering point as a shopping trip, with stallholders and regulars often knowing each other by name, typical of the smaller North Clare town markets. It is organised locally by Cate Conway, who handles enquiries from both shoppers and prospective stallholders. Ennistymon sits close to Lahinch and the Cliffs of Moher, so the market also picks up passing custom from visitors touring that stretch of the Wild Atlantic Way, particularly through the summer months. The Falls Hotel overlooks the Cascades from the opposite bank of the river, and its grounds and riverside walk are an easy add-on to a market morning in the town.
Ennistymon is on the N85, about 30km north-west of Ennis and a short drive from Lahinch and the Cliffs of Moher. Bus Eireann operates services between Ennis and Ennistymon, and parking is available in the town.
