Melvin Studios Arts & Crafts 2026 - Afternoon

At Melvin Studios · Post Office, Garrison, Co. Fermanagh

Melvin Studios Arts & Crafts afternoon session

Garrison Community Group runs Melvin Studios Arts & Crafts each summer to give primary school children a proper creative outlet during the school holidays. This three-day afternoon programme is led by Jane and Dom, two instructors who have put together a hands-on schedule of art-making and crafting projects. If you have a child in P1 through P7 - roughly ages four to twelve - and you want them doing something engaging rather than staring at a screen, this is a solid option in a small village setting where things don’t feel rushed or overcrowded.

What to expect

Sessions run from 2pm to 4pm on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday the 3rd to 5th of August. Children spend the two hours each day making artwork and craft pieces guided by Jane and Dom. The event description promises “a fun filled week with plenty of Arts and Craft,” which in practice means hands-on making rather than passive watching - the kind of afternoon where children go home with something they have actually created. The venue is the Post Office on Main Street in Garrison, a familiar local spot that doubles as a community hub. The full course price is £40 per child, covering all three sessions.

Getting there

Garrison sits on the western shore of Lough Melvin, close to the Leitrim border. From Enniskillen take the A46 south-west to Belleek, then follow the A47 along the Erne to Garrison - a drive of roughly 35 minutes. From Sligo or Manorhamilton in Co. Leitrim, the R281 crosses the border at Garrison directly, making it an easy approach from the south. There is no regular bus service into Garrison, so you will need a car. Parking on Main Street is informal and generally fine for a village of this size.

While you’re in Garrison

Garrison is the kind of quiet lakeshore village where it is worth arriving a bit early and taking a walk down to the shore of Lough Melvin - the light on the water is worth seeing. Roogagh Waterfall is a short walk from the village through woodland and is a pleasant stop for families after the afternoon session. There is more to see in Garrison and across Co. Fermanagh.
