At Florence Court and sites across Co. Fermanagh · Marble Arch Road, Florence Court, Co. Fermanagh, BT92 1DB
European Heritage Open Days returns on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September 2026, opening historic sites across Fermanagh to the public free of charge for the weekend. It is a Northern Ireland-wide initiative run by the Department for Communities, but Fermanagh and Omagh District Council organises a local programme every year, funding community groups to run guided tours, talks and demonstrations at places that are not always open to visitors. Florence Court, the National Trust estate outside Enniskillen, has confirmed free entry on the Saturday from 10am to 4pm, and National Trust properties across the county traditionally take part alongside smaller, community-run sites.
The 2026 theme is “Heritage at Risk, Revive, Resist, Reimagine,” and the council’s sponsorship scheme, which offers £300 towards local events, has been open to eligible groups since the spring. Expect a mix of guided tours, talks and lectures, living history re-enactments and community open days, spread across historic buildings, churches and sites that would otherwise be closed or overlooked. Florence Court’s own house and grounds are included as part of the weekend, and National Trust properties including Castle Coole and Crom near Newtownbutler have participated in past years as part of the same open weekend. Because the full local programme is confirmed by participating groups closer to the date, the exact list of Fermanagh sites and activities for 2026 is published nearer September, but the format, free entry to sites that normally charge or that are not usually open, stays consistent year to year.
Florence Court is about eight miles southwest of Enniskillen on the A32 and A4 roads, with its own car park on site. Other participating sites are spread across the county, so check individual venue details before travelling, particularly for public transport options outside Enniskillen.
The Florence Court estate is known for its walled garden and for the Irish yew, the parent tree of nearly all Irish yews grown worldwide. There is more to see in Florence Court and across Co. Fermanagh.
