At Lakeland Forum, Broadmeadow · Broadmeadow, Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh, BT74 7EF
Every Sunday morning, the Lakeland Forum on the Broadmeadow in Enniskillen hosts a free, timed 2km run built specifically for children aged 4 to 14. Broadmeadow junior parkrun uses the same site as the Saturday’s Enniskillen parkrun but runs its own shorter, gentler course and its own weekly event, aimed at introducing young runners and walkers to the parkrun format in a relaxed, encouraging setting rather than a competitive one.
The 2km course covers flat, largely off-road ground around the Broadmeadow, short enough for younger children while still giving older juniors room to run properly if they want to. As with every parkrun event, it is entirely free and run by volunteers, many of them parents, and every finisher is timed and scanned with their own personal barcode so they get an official result and can track their progress week to week. The atmosphere is deliberately low-pressure, walking is just as welcome as running, and parents and carers are encouraged to walk or jog alongside younger participants. New families are welcome to arrive early for a First Timers’ introduction before the 9:30am start.
The Lakeland Forum sits on the Broadmeadow beside Lough Erne, within easy walking distance of Enniskillen town centre, with car parking available on site. Translink buses connect Enniskillen with the wider region, making the venue straightforward to reach without a car.
A Sunday morning at the Broadmeadow pairs well with a wider family day out around the county town’s lakeshore and castle grounds. There is more to see in Enniskillen and across Co. Fermanagh.
