At Various club grounds · Co. Fermanagh
The Mercer League is the top division of the Fermanagh and Western Football League, the amateur soccer competition that has organised the game across the county and into west Tyrone since 1922. Headquartered in Enniskillen, the league runs some thirty clubs across four divisions, from the Mercer League itself down through the Enda Love Cup, the Brendan Keogh Memorial Cup and a reserve division, and the new season starts on Saturday, 15 August 2026, across every division at once.
All divisions begin on the same August Saturday, with Division One clubs facing an unusually busy start to the campaign: four games in ten days, after the league reintroduced midweek fixtures for the opening two rounds, with matches also scheduled for the Tuesdays either side of the opening weekend. As a curtain-raiser just before the league gets going, the Kennedy Cup final between two of Enniskillen’s own clubs, Enniskillen Town United and Enniskillen Rangers, is pencilled in for the Friday beforehand. Expect proper grassroots Saturday football, home and away across Fermanagh and into neighbouring parts of Tyrone, run by the Fermanagh and Western Football Association, one of only four regional football associations in Northern Ireland.
Fixtures are played at club grounds across Fermanagh and the western end of the league’s catchment, so the venue depends on the pairing. The league’s administrative base is in Enniskillen, which is reachable from Belfast, Omagh and Sligo by road, and by Translink bus services.
The league’s clubs and its headquarters are centred on Enniskillen, making the county town a good base for following a fixture. There is more to see in Enniskillen and across Co. Fermanagh.
