Every summer Monday to Friday from late June through August, Fota Island Adventure runs a week-by-week outdoor camp for children aged 7 to 15. Set across 22 acres of woodland within the grounds of Fota Island Resort, this is a proper outdoors week - not a soft play session or a screen-based club. It suits energetic kids who want to get muddy, learn something useful, and come home pleasantly wrecked. Parents can book individual weeks across the nine-week run, from 29 June right through to 28 August 2026.
Each day runs from 9am, with a half-day option (to 2pm) and a full-day option (to 4pm). The week follows a loose daily theme, and activities change to keep things fresh. Combat archery - where foam-tipped arrows are fired in team battles - is a firm favourite, and orienteering trails thread through the resort grounds at different difficulty levels. Survival skills feature mid-week: children learn shelter building, fire starting, and bush cooking, and Wednesday often means frankfurters cooked over a fire. Thursday is water day, so pack a towel and a change of clothes.
The format is structured but not rigid. Qualified outdoor instructors lead the sessions, and kids form their own base camp for the week, giving them a genuine sense of independence. Numbers are limited and booking closes 24 hours before each session. Pack old clothes that can get muddy, runners that can get wet, a packed lunch, and a refillable water bottle every day. Fota Island sits about 15 km east of Cork city, connected to the mainland by a short causeway. By car, take the N25 east from Cork and exit at Carrigtwohill; follow signs for Fota Island Resort - the adventure centre is signposted within the resort grounds. The easiest public transport option is the Cork to Cobh commuter rail line, which stops at Fota station - a short walk from the adventure centre entrance. The Eircode for the venue is T45HX62.
