Station House Theatre in Clifden hosts a free 25th anniversary screening of Images of Ourselves on Wednesday 16 September 2026, from 4:00pm to 5:00pm, the day before the wider Clifden Arts Festival opens. The documentary was made by nineteen women from Connemara, and this screening marks a quarter of a century since it was first produced.
Images of Ourselves is a community-made documentary, created by nineteen Connemara women rather than professional filmmakers, giving it a first-person, local perspective that is unusual for the format. A 25th anniversary screening like this one is typically an occasion for reflection as much as viewing, revisiting how the women and their community have changed in the years since. The screening lands on the eve of Clifden Arts Festival, the longest-running community arts festival in Ireland, which opens the following day, 17 September, for its 49th edition under the theme “Open”. Station House Theatre, in the town’s old railway station building, is one of the festival’s main indoor venues, so this free screening doubles as a first look at the space before the wider programme of music, theatre, literature and visual art takes over the town through to 27 September.
Clifden is Connemara’s main town, roughly an hour and a quarter’s drive west of Galway City on the N59. Bus Eireann and local Connemara routes connect the town to Galway City; there is no rail service. Station House Theatre is based in the old railway station building, within easy walking distance of Clifden’s town centre.
