At Kilkee Beach · Kilkee Beach, Kilkee, Co. Clare
This is a free come-and-try beach cricket session for women aged 18 and over, run on the sand at Kilkee Beach as part of Clare Sports Partnership’s Her Outdoors programme. A Munster Cricket development officer leads the hour, walking complete beginners through the basics of batting, bowling and fielding before moving into informal, low-pressure games. Nobody needs any cricket background or equipment of their own - the session is built specifically for women who have never picked up a bat, and the atmosphere is described as welcoming rather than competitive. Her Outdoors is Clare Sports Partnership’s summer-long push to get more adult women trying sports and outdoor activities they might not otherwise have access to, running alongside similar programmes at other Local Sports Partnerships nationally, and beach cricket is one of the more unusual entries on this year’s list alongside the more familiar paddleboarding and kayaking sessions. It is a family-friendly evening too: children and other family members are welcome to come along and watch, or wait on the beach, while participants take part.
Kilkee Beach is the main horseshoe-shaped strand in the centre of Kilkee town on Clare’s west coast, a short walk from the town’s shops, parking and seafront. On-street and beach-side parking is available along the promenade.
