At Nevsail Kilkee Beach · Kilkee Beach, Kilkee, Co. Clare
This 90-minute taster session gives adult women their first go at stand up paddleboarding on Kilkee Beach, run by Nevsail Kilkee in partnership with Clare Sports Partnership’s Her Outdoors programme. It is aimed squarely at complete beginners: a qualified instructor covers how to carry a board safely, get on and off in the water, find your balance kneeling before standing, and paddle in a straight line, all in a sheltered part of the bay. Kilkee’s horseshoe-shaped beach is naturally sheltered by the surrounding cliffs and reef, which makes it a relatively calm, forgiving spot to fall in for the first time compared with more exposed stretches of the Clare coast, and it is one of the reasons Nevsail is based there rather than further up the coast. Boards, paddles and buoyancy aids are all supplied, so participants only need to bring themselves and swimwear. Like the rest of the Her Outdoors series, the aim is less about technique and more about getting women who might never otherwise try a watersport into the water once, in a group of peers at the same beginner level.
Kilkee Beach is in the centre of Kilkee town on Clare’s west coast, with parking along the seafront promenade within easy walking distance of the beach.
