IBTS Blood Donation Clinic, Mucklagh

The Irish Blood Transfusion Service returns to Mucklagh, just outside Tullamore, for a four-day donation clinic running Monday 20 to Thursday 23 July 2026. It is an appointment-based clinic rather than a walk-in event, part of the IBTS’s regular rotation of local clinics that keeps the national blood supply topped up between the fixed donation centres in Dublin, Cork and Limerick. Anyone eligible to donate can book a slot across the four afternoons and evenings.

What to expect

Each of the four days runs the same 3:50pm to 8:10pm session at Mucklagh Community Centre, giving donors a wide evening window to fit a donation around work or family commitments. First-time donors and regulars alike need an appointment, booked by phone rather than on the day, and the whole visit, from registration through the donation itself to tea and biscuits afterwards, takes about ninety minutes. IBTS staff check eligibility on arrival, including a short health questionnaire and an iron check, before the donation itself, which takes around ten minutes. Donors are asked to eat beforehand and to keep drinking fluids for the rest of the day. The clinic returns to the Tullamore area roughly every three months, having last visited Mucklagh in April 2026.

Getting there

Mucklagh Community Centre is on the Cloonagh road on the western edge of Mucklagh village, a few minutes’ drive from Tullamore town centre. Parking is available at the centre. There is no rail or scheduled bus stop directly outside, so most donors travel by car.

While you’re in Mucklagh

Mucklagh is a small village right on Tullamore’s doorstep, a few minutes’ drive from the county town, so a donation slot here is easy to combine with a trip into Tullamore afterwards for food or shopping. There is more to see in Mucklagh and across Co. Offaly.
