Killarney Tennis Club’s summer tournament is one of the social highlights of the Kerry tennis calendar - a three-day competition that draws both local members and visiting players from around the country. Running across a weekend in July, it is the kind of event where the competitive edge is real but the atmosphere stays friendly, making it worth the trip even if you are travelling specifically for the tennis.
The tournament runs over three days, from Saturday 18 July through Monday 20 July 2026, with play beginning at 9:00am each morning. Both singles and doubles competitions are on offer, catering to different age groups and ability levels, so it is not a purely elite affair. Entry is open to club members and to visiting players who want to test themselves on the day. The organisers ask that you register in advance rather than turning up on the morning, so sort your entry before you travel.
Killarney Tennis Club currently plays at the Gleneagle Hotel complex on Muckross Road, which has two outdoor floodlit courts - practical for early mornings or if play runs into the evening. The Gleneagle site also has wider leisure facilities nearby if you are accompanying someone who is not competing.
Killarney is one of the better-served towns in Munster for public transport. The town has its own train station on the Mallow - Tralee intercity line, with direct services from Cork and Dublin (change at Mallow). The bus station sits immediately next to the train station, with Bus Éireann express routes connecting Killarney to Limerick, Cork, and beyond. From the town centre, Muckross Road heads south towards the Gleneagle Hotel complex - it is a straightforward 10 - 15 minute walk or a very short taxi ride. Parking is available at the Gleneagle site if you are driving.
July is peak season in Killarney, and for good reason. Killarney National Park is on the doorstep, Muckross House and the Lakes are walkable from the Gleneagle site, and the town itself has no shortage of places to eat and recover between rounds.
