Kicking & Screaming by Wayne Power

Kicking & Screaming, a new comedy written by Wayne Power, plays Theatre Royal Waterford for one night on Friday, 7 August 2026 at 8pm. Presented by Slip of the Tongue Productions and directed by Sinead Hourigan, the play is billed as a raucous Deise comedy about two Waterford men wrestling with midlife uncertainty, local material written by and for a Waterford audience rather than a touring national show.

The story follows Stevie, who stays rooted in Waterford through his mother Beryl de Courcey, a formidable presence going through her own marriage breakdown, and Dylan, facing similar family pressure, as both men weigh up leaving the city for something bigger against everything keeping them where they are. The cast is Kieran Walsh, David Marchant, Gayle Corrigan and Adam O’Neill, and Wayne Power previously wrote Dress You Up for the same kind of local comedy-with-heart audience. Expect the show to lean on recognisable Waterford characters and settings rather than generic sitcom stereotypes, the sort of comedy that plays best to a home crowd who know the places and types being sent up. It is a single performance rather than a run, so this is the one chance to catch it in Waterford unless a future tour is announced.

Theatre Royal is on The Mall in Waterford city centre, close to the quays and the Viking Triangle. It is within walking distance of Plunkett railway and bus station, and city centre car parks are close by for anyone driving in.
