Kildare Badminton League

At Various venues across Kildare · Kildare, Co. Kildare

Badminton league match

The Kildare Badminton League is a summer competition run by the Kildare Badminton Association, bringing clubs from across the county together for weeknight league play from June through August. If you play badminton and want competitive matches without the pressure of a full national circuit, this is exactly the kind of league that suits - structured enough to matter, relaxed enough to fit around work. It draws players of various abilities across multiple divisions, so whether you are returning after a break or have been playing for years, there is a level that fits.

What to expect

Matches run on weekday evenings, with 7:30pm the standard start time across the county. The league format means clubs compete head-to-head, with points accumulated over the summer to determine division standings. Kildare has a solid base of clubs and venues for this kind of competition - community centres with multi-court sports halls in Kilcullen, Kilcock and Newbridge all host badminton, and the Kildare CMWS Badminton Club is one of the active sides in the county scene. Spectators are welcome at matches, so it is worth heading along even if you are just curious about taking up the sport yourself. Bring your own racket if you have one; check with the host venue on shuttle availability.

Getting there

Kildare town sits on the main Dublin to Cork / Limerick rail line, with Irish Rail services running regularly from Heuston Station - the journey takes around 45 minutes. By road, the M7 motorway connects Kildare directly to Dublin and to Limerick, making it straightforward from most parts of Leinster and Munster. Because matches rotate across venues throughout the county, check the specific fixture location before setting off - Newbridge, Naas, Kilcullen and Kilcock are all within a short drive of each other in north Kildare.

While you’re in Kildare

The town of Kildare is a short walk from the Japanese Gardens and the Irish National Stud, two of the most visited attractions in the county, and the Curragh plains stretch out just beyond the town - one of the great open grasslands of Ireland, and home to the Irish Derby at the Curragh Racecourse. There is more to see in Kildare and across Co. Kildare.
