Pocketful of Stories

At Thomastown Community Centre · Thomastown Community Centre, Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny

Storytelling session at Thomastown Community Centre

Pocketful of Stories is a storytelling session at Thomastown Community Centre on Saturday, 8 August 2026, presented by Alannah Walklett as part of the AKA Fringe Festival. It runs mid morning, from 10:30am to midday, in the AKA Fringe’s Thomastown strand of events, which spreads several craft and performance sessions across the town’s community centre and men’s shed over the festival’s second weekend. AKA, short for Alternative Kilkenny Arts, Fringe Festival runs from 6 to 16 August 2026 across Kilkenny city and the wider county.

What to expect

AKA Fringe programmes itself deliberately outside the mainstream Kilkenny Arts Festival, giving space to smaller, artist led events in venues that would not usually host a festival crowd, and Thomastown Community Centre is one of several satellite venues used across the county alongside the city centre programme. Pocketful of Stories runs in a single 90 minute morning slot, with Alannah Walklett presenting the session; full details of format and audience were not published alongside the listing beyond the title, date, time and venue, so families planning to attend should check the AKA programme nearer the date for the latest information. It sits in the same Thomastown weekend as other AKA Fringe sessions, including a needle felting workshop at the town’s Men’s Shed and a sketching session also at the Community Centre, making the second AKA weekend a small hub of craft and performance events in the town.

Getting there

Thomastown Community Centre is in the centre of Thomastown, on the River Nore in south Kilkenny, reached via the N9. Thomastown has its own railway station on the Dublin to Waterford line, making it one of the more easily reached AKA Fringe venues outside Kilkenny city itself.

While you’re in Thomastown

Thomastown is a compact heritage town on the River Nore, with Jerpoint Abbey a short drive away. There is more to see in Thomastown and across Co. Kilkenny.
