Four days of drawing, painting, sculpture, animation and mixed media - the Creative Kids Summer Camp run by Leitrim School of Art gives children aged 5 to 12 a proper creative week rather than a drop-in taster. Sessions run Tuesday to Friday, 21 to 24 July 2026, from 10am to 2pm each day, leaving the afternoons free for family. The school is run by Denise Corbett, a professional artist with a background in arts education, and camps are led by qualified teachers working with age-based groups - so a five-year-old and a twelve-year-old are not doing the same project.
Each morning at The Junction in Ballinamore, children move through a range of activities across the four days: drawing and painting sessions sit alongside sculpture, animation, t-shirt design and other mixed media work. The studio at The Junction - a modern, purpose-built art space on the site of the old railway station - is fully equipped, so children arrive and get straight to making things. Spaces are limited, which keeps group sizes manageable and means the tutors actually get around to every child. Sibling discounts are available, worth asking about when you book. Booking is through Eventbrite; the school recommends securing places early as camps fill quickly.
Ballinamore sits roughly in the middle of County Leitrim, about 20 km east of Carrick-on-Shannon and 15 km west of the Cavan border. By car from Dublin, take the M3 and N55 via Cavan town - the drive is around two hours. From Sligo, the N4 to Carrick-on-Shannon and then the R202 east brings you in under an hour. Bus Eireann serves Carrick-on-Shannon from Dublin and Sligo; from there a local connection or a short drive covers the remaining distance. The Junction is on the old railway station site in town and parking is available on-street nearby.
