Energy Made Visible

At Ormston House · 9-10 Patrick Street, Limerick, Co. Limerick

Airbrushed cosmic paintings on display at Ormston House

Energy Made Visible is a free group exhibition at Ormston House in Limerick city, running until Saturday, 5 September 2026. The show is built around the paintings of Michael Ashur, who died in 2024 and was known for meticulously airbrushed compositions depicting solar systems and celestial bodies, expanded by new work from four contemporary Irish artists responding to his practice: Ann Maria Healy, Sean Lynch, Thais Muniz and Garrett Phelan.

What to expect

Rather than a straightforward retrospective, the exhibition treats Ashur’s paintings as a starting point that the four invited artists activate and reinterpret in their own work, so his airbrushed cosmic scenes sit alongside contemporary pieces that respond directly to them. Ashur worked in relative obscurity, and Ormston House frames the show as a chance to reassess an under-recognised body of work while putting it in conversation with living artists working in very different media. Ormston House is an independent, artist-led contemporary art space on Patrick Street in Limerick city centre, and has built a reputation for showing experimental and lesser-known practice rather than blockbuster names. Admission is free throughout the run.

Getting there

Ormston House is on Patrick Street, close to Arthur’s Quay and a short walk from Limerick’s main shopping streets and bus station. On-street parking and nearby public car parks serve the area.

While you’re in Limerick

Patrick Street sits within easy walking distance of the Hunt Museum and King John’s Castle, so the exhibition combines easily with a wider day exploring the city centre. There is more to see in Limerick and across Co. Limerick.
