Public Consultation, Draft Local Sports Plan 2026-2030

At Limerick City and County Council · Merchants Quay, Limerick, Co. Limerick

A council notice board with a public consultation document

Limerick City and County Council is consulting the public on its Draft Local Sports Plan 2026-2030, a strategy setting out how sport and physical activity will be supported and funded across the county over the next four years. The consultation is open now and closes at 5pm on Wednesday, 2 September 2026, giving clubs, sports bodies and individual residents a window to shape the plan before it is finalised.

What to expect

The draft plan can be read on the council’s MyPoint portal, where submissions can also be made once a free account is registered. Feedback can also be emailed directly to the council’s regeneration team rather than going through the portal, which makes it a little more accessible for club secretaries and voluntary committees who may not want to register online. The plan is expected to cover funding priorities, facility development and how the council supports local sports clubs and community groups, so GAA, soccer, rugby and athletics clubs across Limerick, along with disability sport and recreational walking and cycling groups, are among those likely to have a direct interest in the outcome.

Local sports plans of this kind typically feed into how the council prioritises grant funding and capital investment in pitches, halls and walking and cycling infrastructure over the plan’s lifetime, so early input from clubs on the ground can influence where that funding lands over the following four years. Committees short on time are still encouraged to send even a brief email submission rather than skip the process altogether, since the council has said it wants a genuinely broad picture of what facilities and supports are missing across the county.
