Cavan County Council Monthly Meeting

Cavan County Council holds a full monthly meeting of all elected members at its Farnham Street offices, and members of the public are entitled to attend and observe proceedings from the public gallery free of charge. Based on the council’s published 2026 meeting record, sessions have consistently fallen on the second Monday of the month - the May meeting was held on 11 May and the June meeting on 8 June - so the next sitting is expected around Monday 10 August 2026, with a further meeting likely in mid-September. Agendas typically cover planning applications, road works, housing schemes and motions raised by individual councillors, and both agendas and minutes are published on the council website in advance of and after each meeting.

What to expect

Full council meetings bring together the county’s elected members to debate and vote on council business, from the annual budget and planning matters to motions raised by individual councillors on local issues. Meetings are chaired by the Cathaoirleach (mayor) of Cavan County Council and follow a published agenda, with the Chief Executive and senior council officials in attendance to answer questions. Members of the public and press can sit in the public gallery, though speaking rights are generally reserved for elected members and officials.
