Longford GAA Golf Classic

At County Longford Golf Club · Leader Park, Glack, Longford, Co. Longford

Golfers on the course at County Longford Golf Club

Club Longford, the official supporters’ fundraising arm of Longford GAA, holds its sixth annual Golf Classic over two days at County Longford Golf Club on Saturday, 29 August and Sunday, 30 August 2026. Teams tee off across the weekend in aid of the county board’s drive to build a new centre of excellence at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park. The classic has grown into one of the biggest fixtures on the Longford GAA fundraising calendar outside matchday itself, drawing club members, past players and local businesses from across the county.

What to expect

Organisers are hoping for between 40 and 50 four-ball teams across the two days on County Longford Golf Club’s parkland course at Glack, on the edge of Longford town. Entry costs €400 per team, and businesses are also being invited to sponsor a tee box or green for €200, with sponsor signage displayed around the course for the weekend. This year’s classic is being run in association with Longford native Michael Brewster, owner of Viewmount House, and Corkman Bill Murphy, both long-standing contributors to Longford GAA fundraising. Prize presentations typically follow play in the clubhouse. Every euro raised goes toward Club Longford’s campaign to fund a new centre of excellence at Pearse Park, a long-planned training base intended to give the county’s underage and adult panels facilities in line with rival counties. Club Longford has previously run car draws and other fundraisers toward the same project.

Getting there

County Longford Golf Club is signposted from the N4 and N5 around Longford town, a couple of kilometres from the town centre. There is free parking on site. Longford town has Bus Éireann services from Dublin, Sligo and the midlands, and an Iarnród Éireann station on the Sligo line, with a short taxi journey on to the club.

While you’re in Longford

A Golf Classic weekend is a good excuse to make a full day of it. There is more to see and do in Longford town itself, from St Mel’s Cathedral to the Backstage Theatre, and further afield across Co. Longford, including the lakeshore towns along the Shannon.
