At Longford Town Centre · Longford Town, Co. Longford
Longford town’s Pride parade returns on Saturday, 8 August 2026, the centrepiece of a week of Pride events running from 3 to 9 August. Labour Party councillor Eddie McGuinness has been named grand marshal for this year’s parade. What began as the county’s first-ever Pride parade a few years ago has grown into an established date on the calendar, with local LGBTQ+ groups, allies and families walking together through the town centre.
Expect a colourful procession through Longford’s streets, drawing crowds who come out to watch as well as to march. Past parades have featured samba drummers, flags, banners and music, with a genuinely local, community feel rather than a large commercial production. The parade sits within a wider Pride Week, with related social and cultural events in the run-up to the Saturday parade; Longford Pride post the detailed week’s schedule on their Instagram and Facebook pages closer to the date. The event has grown year on year since that first parade, and is organised entirely by local volunteers rather than a paid events company, which shows in the grassroots, everybody-welcome atmosphere on the day. Shops and businesses along the route typically show their support with flags and window displays in the run-up to the parade.
Longford town centre is compact and walkable, on the N4 Dublin to Sligo road and served by direct trains from Dublin Heuston. Public car parks are available around the town centre; expect some short street closures along the parade route on the day itself.
Longford town has a compact main street of independent shops and cafes worth a wander before or after the parade, plus The Mall park down by the River Camlin. There is more to see in Longford and across Co. Longford.
