Lough Head parkrun is one of the newest additions to Fermanagh’s running calendar, launched near Lisnaskea with an inaugural run on 20 September 2025 that drew 78 runners and 15 volunteers. Every Saturday morning since, a free, timed 5km has brought together local runners, walkers and visiting parkrun tourists to a lakeside course in the south of the county, well away from the longer-established events around Enniskillen. The next run is Saturday, 8 August 2026.
The course is a two-lap route on gravel paths: each lap is a clockwise loop of the Railway Path around Emmet Park followed by a loop of the Birdie Walk through Lough Head Park itself. As with every parkrun, it is a free, timed 5km open to walkers and runners of any ability, with results published online the same day using each participant’s own barcode. Being a young event, it has a strong volunteer culture and a noticeably friendly, still-building atmosphere, with the local Lisnaskea running community closely involved in getting it established. There are no toilets on site, but a good number of regulars head for a post-run coffee at Roasted afterwards. New runners are welcome to arrive shortly before the 9:30am start for a First Timers’ introduction to the barcode and timing system.
Lough Head Park is just outside Lisnaskea, Fermanagh’s second-largest town, in the south of the county. Car parking is available near the start, and Lisnaskea has regular Translink bus connections to Enniskillen and on to Belfast.
A Saturday morning run is a good excuse to spend more time in Lisnaskea afterwards, with the town’s shops and cafes a short walk or drive from the park. There is more to see in Lisnaskea and across Co. Fermanagh.
