An Evening with Marti Pellow

At TF Royal Hotel and Theatre · Castlebar, Co. Mayo

Marti Pellow concert poster

Marti Pellow brings his solo show to one of the west of Ireland’s most celebrated stages this September. Best known as the frontman of Wet Wet Wet - the Glasgow pop group who spent fifteen consecutive weeks at number one in the UK with “Love Is All Around” - Pellow has built a substantial solo career in the years since, releasing albums and touring regularly across Britain and Ireland. This is the kind of evening that suits anyone who grew up with the band, and equally those who have followed his quieter, more reflective solo work.

What to expect

The TF Royal Hotel and Theatre is a proper concert venue, with a 2,200-seat capacity and standing room for up to 4,000. It sells around 235,000 tickets a year and is the largest venue outside Dublin without anything comparable within 150 miles - so artists who come here are playing to a real crowd, with proper production values. The stage is over 3,200 square feet and the acoustics, lighting, and rigging are all professional grade.

Pellow has been performing live for over forty years. His set will draw on the Wet Wet Wet catalogue - expect “Sweet Little Mystery”, “Goodnight Girl”, and “Love Is All Around” - alongside material from his solo albums. He has also done time on the West End stage (Chicago, London and Broadway), so the performance side of things is never in question. Doors typically open around 7pm for an 8pm start.

Getting there

Castlebar is the county town of Mayo, sitting at the junction of the N5 (from Dublin via Longford and Castlerea) and the N60 and N84. It is well signed from every direction. Bus Eireann serves Castlebar from Dublin, Galway, and Sligo on regular routes. The town also has a train station on the Dublin Heuston to Westport line - the journey from Dublin takes around three hours. The TF Royal is a short walk from the station and has multi-storey parking adjacent to the venue.

While you’re in Castlebar

Castlebar has a lively town centre, a good range of restaurants and pubs, and is a practical base for exploring the wider county. Achill Island, Croagh Patrick, and Clew Bay are all within easy reach if you are making a weekend of it. There is more to see in Castlebar and across Co. Mayo.
