What to Expect

Boann Distillery is a family-owned, state-of-the-art whiskey and gin distillery on the edge of Drogheda, just over the Meath border on the Platin Road. It is one of the newer generation of independent Irish distilleries, built around locally sourced grain, a pair of pioneering copper pot stills and a hands-on, small-batch approach to flavour. The guided tour runs every Friday at 3pm and lasts around 50 minutes, taking visitors from the mash tun through fermentation, distillation and maturation, with knowledgeable guides explaining both the science and the craft behind each stage, from grain to glass. The experience concludes with a guided tasting of a selection of Boann’s celebrated whiskeys and spirits, where guests are talked through aroma, flavour and finish rather than simply handed a dram. It is a compact, informative visit that suits a first-time distillery visitor as much as a committed whiskey enthusiast, and it runs to a fixed weekly slot rather than continuous drop-in tours, so advance booking matters. Beyond the regular Friday tour, Boann also hosts seasonal events through the year and can arrange bespoke private or group experiences on request, alongside its retail shop selling the full range of Boann whiskeys and craft gins.

Getting There

The distillery sits off the Platin Road (R132) on the edge of Drogheda, close to Junction 8 of the M1 motorway, roughly an hour’s drive from Dublin or Belfast. There is parking on site.
