Causey Farm Summer Camp - Farm, Forest and Bogland

At Causey Farm · Bryanstown, Navan, Co. Meath

Children exploring the farm and boglands at Causey Farm Meath

Causey Farm’s summer camp is one of the best-known children’s outdoor programmes in Leinster, and for good reason. Four days of genuine farm and bogland life - not a sanitised version of it - await children aged 6 to 13 at this working farm outside Navan. If your child has never jumped into a bog, helped build a dam in a stream, or made their way through a real underground tunnel, this is where that changes. It suits kids who like getting muddy, being active outdoors, and working in a team. It also suits parents who want their child off screens and into something real for a week of the summer.

What to expect

Causey Farm packs an enormous amount into each four-day week. Activities rotate around the farm’s natural terrain - boglands, river, fields, and farmyard - and no two sessions are identical.

Children can expect to:

  • Explore the boglands and cut turf (and jump in, if they dare)
  • Follow trail-blazing routes through the fields with guides
  • Build dams and engineer structures in the river
  • Care for the farm animals - pigs, hens, calves, lambs, and ponies
  • Navigate the farm’s underground tunnel system (the “mineshaft”)
  • Bake traditional soda bread over a campfire
  • Learn survival skills and take part in team challenges
  • Try creative workshops: bodhrán playing, graffiti art, giant bubble blowing, and giant dominoes

Older reviewers consistently mention how well the staff handle mixed ages and group dynamics. A registered nurse is on-site throughout, and all activities are closely supervised. The farm also has indoor options ready for wet weather, so a rainy afternoon does not derail the day.

Wear the oldest clothes and wellies you own. Bring a packed lunch, plenty of drinks, and a full change of clothes - children arrive back muddy and happy.

Camp runs Monday to Thursday, 10am to 3pm, across the last two weeks of July and the first two weeks of August.

Getting there

Causey Farm is at Bryanstown, just outside Navan town, and is most easily reached by car. Navan is roughly 50 minutes from Dublin city via the M3 motorway - follow signs for Navan and then Bryanstown from the town. There is parking on site. Bus Eireann runs services from Dublin Busáras to Navan town (route 109X), from where you would need a taxi or lift to the farm itself. Most families drop off by car for the school run length of the day.

While you’re in Navan

Navan is the county town of Meath and makes a practical base for exploring the Boyne Valley. The Hill of Tara, Newgrange, and Trim Castle are all within easy reach for a day trip while the children are at camp. There is more to see in Navan and across Co. Meath.
