Three mornings in late July, Blackwater Park becomes a busy patch of grass, racquets, balls, and children who have not yet settled on a favourite sport. The Community Sports Hub Navan summer camp is a free, structured multi-sport programme for children aged 5 to 12, run by Meath Local Sports Partnership. It is a good option for parents looking for something active and sociable during the school holidays - the two-hour sessions are the right length for young children, and the variety of sports means there is always something new to try before the morning is out.
The camp runs across three mornings - Tuesday 26 to Thursday 28 July 2026 - from 10am to 12pm at Blackwater Park on Ratholdren Road. The sports programme covers a wide range: cricket, rounders, tag rugby, soccer, GAA, Olympic handball, badminton, basketball, and fun games fill the sessions. All coaching is delivered by qualified, experienced coaches. Because the camp covers so many disciplines, it works well both for children who are already active in one code and for those who have not yet found their sport. Pre-registration is mandatory and places are free - register in advance through Eventmaster.ie, as numbers will be limited.
Navan sits about 48km north-west of Dublin city, easily reached via the M3 motorway (exit at junction 7 for Navan). Bus Eireann runs regular services between Dublin (Busaras) and Navan; the journey takes around an hour. Blackwater Park is on Ratholdren Road on the western edge of the town - there is a dedicated car park on site. A new footbridge opened in 2026 connecting the Balmoral area to the park, so if you are already in the town centre it is now walkable along the river path.
The park itself is a pleasant spot to spend time before or after the camp session - it has a 1.4km looped riverside walkway, a playground, picnic tables, and an outdoor gym.
