Meath Senior Football Championship 2026 group stage fixtures

The Fairyhouse Steel Senior Football Championship is the top tier of club football in County Meath, and when the group stage kicks off on Monday 27 July 2026 it marks the beginning of months of serious competition across club grounds throughout the county. This is not a one-day event but the opening round of a championship that has been running since 1887 - one of the oldest club competitions in Irish sport. If you follow Meath club football, the first fixtures of the season are where the talking stops and the football begins.

What to expect

Sixteen clubs compete across four groups, with each team playing out their group games before the top two in each group advance to the quarter-finals. The bottom teams face relegation playoffs. The championship’s modern dominant force is Summerhill, who won the 2025 title by beating Ratoath, but clubs like Skryne (13 titles) and Navan O’Mahonys (20 titles, the most in the competition’s history) are never far from the picture.

Group stage games are played at individual club grounds around the county, so each fixture has its own atmosphere - local crowds, no fuss, close to the pitch. Finals are traditionally held at Páirc Tailteann in Navan, the county ground opened in 1935 and named after the ancient Tailteann Games once held nearby at Teltown between Navan and Kells. Current capacity is 17,000. Specific fixtures for July 27 are published on the Meath GAA website and social channels closer to the date.

Getting there

Meath is well connected by road. Navan is roughly 48km from Dublin via the M3 motorway, a journey of under an hour, and club grounds around the county are typically within 20-30 minutes of the town. Bus Eireann services run from Dublin Busaras to Navan, with the journey taking around an hour and fifteen minutes. Group stage matches are at club grounds, so check the specific venue before setting out - parking is generally available at or near club facilities.

While you’re in Navan

Navan sits at the meeting of the Boyne and Blackwater rivers and is a good base for the wider county. There is more to see in Navan and across Co. Meath.
