The JM Food Services Meath Intermediate Hurling Championship is the second tier of club hurling in County Meath, sitting between senior and junior level and offering a genuinely competitive stage for clubs pushing upward. When the group stage opens on Friday 7 July 2026, twelve clubs begin the long road toward a county final at Páirc Tailteann. If you have any connection to one of the competing clubs - or simply enjoy watching well-contested club hurling with real stakes - this is the kind of fixture that rewards the trip.
The championship runs a round-robin group stage: twelve clubs split into two groups of six, each playing the others before the top three from each group advance to knockout rounds. Group games are hosted by clubs at their own grounds across the county, so the atmosphere is tight and local rather than big-stadium neutral. Crowds are smaller than senior intercounty days, which means you get close to the action and there is none of the queuing that comes with marquee fixtures.
The competition has been running since 1940, with a gap before being properly revived in the 1960s. Recent years have seen tight finishes - the 2024 final saw Navan O’Mahonys claim their first title, and the 2025 championship went to Kilskyre/Moylagh on a scoreline of 2-14 to 0-12 against Rathmolyon. Clubs from across Meath - from Navan O’Mahonys to Donaghmore Ashbourne to Kildalkey - have all featured in recent editions. Check meath.gaa.ie for the full list of July 7th fixtures and specific venues as they are confirmed.
